Sky Stack is a tower-building game where each block slides back and forth above the tower and you drop it with a single press. Whatever hangs over the edge is sliced off permanently, so the landing platform only ever narrows. The sliding speed climbs with every floor you place.

Why Sky Stack gets harder every floor

One input, two consequences

A block slides horizontally above the top of your tower, reversing direction each time it reaches the edge of its travel. Pressing once drops it. The game then compares the block’s position against the block below it and keeps only the overlapping part.

That overlap becomes the new block, and it becomes the landing platform for the next one. Miss by a third and you do not just lose that third — every future floor is now built on a base a third narrower. There is no mechanic anywhere in the game that widens a block again.

A drop with no overlap at all ends the run. The tower display shows the most recent ten floors, so the visible stack stays readable no matter how tall you build.

Early precision is worth far more than late precision

The compounding is the whole game. A small error on floor three propagates through every floor after it, because floor four can only be as wide as what survived on floor three. An identical error on floor thirty costs you almost nothing by comparison, since there is very little width left to lose.

So the counter-intuitive advice is to be most careful when the game feels easiest. The opening blocks are wide and slow and it is tempting to drop them casually; those are precisely the drops that determine whether your run ends at fifteen floors or fifty.

  • Watch a full sweep before your first drop. The block reverses at both ends of its travel, and knowing the turnaround points makes the timing predictable rather than reactive.
  • Aim to release just before alignment, not at it. There is a delay between your press and the block committing, and it is the same delay every time, so you can learn it once and apply it for the whole run.
  • When the block is narrow, drop near a turnaround point. The horizontal speed is lowest there, which buys you the largest timing margin exactly when you need it most.

Speed scales with your score

Each successfully placed block adds one point, so your score is simply the number of floors you built. There is no bonus for a perfect alignment and no multiplier for consecutive clean drops.

The score does have a second job, though: it sets the difficulty. The horizontal sliding speed is calculated from your current score, starting slow and climbing steadily until it reaches a hard ceiling. The block never moves faster than that ceiling no matter how tall the tower gets.

Common mistakes

Nearly every short run traces back to treating the early, easy floors as unimportant.

  • Rushing the first few blocks. They are the widest and slowest, and they set the maximum width available to every floor that follows. An error here is permanent.
  • Expecting a block to widen. Nothing in the game restores lost width. Once trimmed, that material is gone for the rest of the run.
  • Dropping at mid-sweep when the block is narrow. Horizontal speed is highest away from the turnaround points, so a mid-sweep drop gives the smallest timing window of any moment available.
  • Assuming it keeps accelerating forever. Speed hits a fixed ceiling in the high teens of floors; past that the challenge is purely the narrowing platform, not increasing pace.

What is different about this version

Block motion is integrated against real elapsed time with the per-frame delta clamped, so the tower slides at the same rate on a Chromebook as on a desktop and a dropped frame cannot teleport the block past your intended drop point.

The reversal is a true reflection rather than a wrap: when the block reaches the end of its travel the overshoot is folded back into the return path, so the sweep stays smooth and the turnaround points remain in exactly the same place every cycle. That consistency is what makes the timing learnable.

Common questions about Sky Stack

Can a block ever get wider?

No. Overhang is sliced off on every drop and nothing restores it. The landing platform only ever narrows, which is why the run has a natural end even though there is no floor limit.

When does the block stop speeding up?

The sliding speed is derived from your score and rises until it reaches a fixed ceiling in the high teens of floors. Beyond that the block moves at a constant rate and the only escalating difficulty is the narrowing platform.

Is there a bonus for a perfect drop?

Not in points — every placed block scores exactly one. A perfect drop pays you in width instead, which is far more valuable, because that width is what every subsequent floor is built on.

Why does my tower only show ten blocks?

The display keeps the most recent ten floors visible so the stack stays readable at any height. Your full score still counts every block you have placed; only the rendering is windowed.
